All in all, it was a great show/trip! Now I'm back to real life and feeling generally exhausted (and I'm supposed to be launching my new Etsy shop in a week?!). The show is up until June 27th, so if you're in the Philadelphia area, you still have plenty of time to check it out.

The unicorn drawing itself is 8x10". The frame adds probably 6" to both the width & height. Pic of it framed.

The rabbit drawing is 5x7", with probably an extra 2" added to w&h due to the frame. Frame pic.

The rest of these pieces are UNframed.
The jay drawing (w/ the red ink) is around 5x8". Ask the gallery for exact measurements.

The pieces on dictionary pages are about 6.75x9.75".

Philadelphia summary!

I'm sorry that I keep linking you to larger posts over on my Livejournal (which is essentially a carbon copy of this blog), but they're too long/image heavy to put here without my layout exploding/making me go all sorts of obsessive compulsive on it.

So that said, here is a link to a summary of my trip.

This blog might be on the quiet side for a week or two, I have a few tattoo commissions that I have to get done, and it's not really okay for me to show them to everyone, you know? I hope you understand.

I have to wake up in 5 1/2 hours.

I leave at 6:30 in the morning. I haven't seen my roommates all day, and I'm sad that I don't get to say goodbye to anyone, even though I'm only going to be gone for 3 short days. I'm also sad that some important people can't make it. But there will be a lot of others there, so it will be good. A friend is coming out from Pittsburgh. & I'm meeting several new faces, of course.

This week has been stressful, draining, and disappointing. I'm hoping this will revive me.

I'll be making updates at my twitter along the way, and hopefully taking lots of pictures for you all.

The infamous Circus Show piece.

This is.. a little different than what I usually do. Certainly a lot more colourful. But I was finishing it up in my kitchen tonight and two of my roommates gave me their approval, so I'm feeling pretty okay about it (someday I'll stop beating myself up over everything).



Just a reminder, this will be part of The Circus Show in Sacramento on September 13th.

I'm too tired to add anything else to this post, sorry! Also, this scan is extra-shitty and I'm too tired to do anything about that either. Sorry x2.

Crappity crap.

So here is a picture of what is maybe 2/3rds of the work for the Philly show. I think I have more than I thought! A couple of things are still at ellO, and I have a few things buried in my mess of a bedroom, and.. *gasp*.. two things aren't finished yet. Okay maybe three. And as you can see, things aren't framed, stuff in sleeves is crooked.. yeah at this point it's all just a big mess that I have to go through and organize before I mail it all off. Make sure everything is titled/signed/dated/etc.. oh, and priced. I haven't done all of that yet either.

This is definitely the last stretch. It has to be mailed by Wednesday AT THE LATEST.

That bird/banner/flower drawing? Yeah, I screwed THAT up last night. It looks like a fucking child coloured it or something. It's so bad, I refuse to even show you. But I'm going to try again and try watercolours instead of pencils. Few things cause me to put on my cranky pants faster than ruining a drawing that I otherwise like.

I have a little more than two months to complete work for July's Seacoast Redefined show (have I mentioned how excited I am for this yet?), and unfortunately... I'm lacking ideas. Which is a little surprising, since I love drawing oceanic images. The ideas that I do have are very vague. Secret: I never make rough sketches before beginning final pieces. I usually have the idea clearly mapped out in my head, and I draw right onto whatever surface I'm using for the final. But I'm finding myself trying to jot down ideas for this. Please bear with me.. these are obviously not masterpieces.



I'm going to do a couple of very small pieces too - around 3x4". Thus far I've only prepped a couple of pieces of leftover record sleeves. I need to hunt for some interesting paper. I think I want to do a lot on maps. I just need to find some first.



This week has been incredibly stupid. Last night I did a few of the things that make me happiest.. I drew, played guitar, rode my bike.. but I still can't shake this odd feeling of panic. And now I have to go to an opening and pretend that I'm full of sunshine. Oh, the Bailey show pictures still aren't up anywhere, but my roommate Byrdy posted this one. It's my bag from the outside of the gallery, through foggy windows. You can make out the silhouettes of the two birds on the back:

Pre-show preparation was scowling at the rain outside and having ridiculous conversations with girl-love that included things like HERE I'M TAKING AN AWKWARD PICTURE PLEASE TELL ME IF MY DRESS IS TOO SHORT.

The show itself was.. well, everyone's bags were fantastic (okay, maybe three of them made me go "..."), there was a different crowd than what usually shows up at ellO, and my bag even sold. But you see, and some of you know this already, every so often social anxiety kicks my ass. And my typical show buddy/sanity was out of state, my bike nerd forgot that I existed.. I'm so, so thankful that Leah came for a while and let me escape with her for coffee, because otherwise I probably would have snuck out well before the show ended at 9. The worst part is, I probably come off as a huge snob at these events, but the truth is, I'm just bad at approaching strangers and I kind of hate talking about my art.

The photos aren't up yet, but I'll definitely be sharing them with you when they are. My roommate turned her bag into a dress, which I have been in awe over since February, watching her work towards the end result. I do have this for you, that the wonderful Leah took:


The bird looks a little blobby here, but I swear it isn't irl, and what you can't see are the two other birds on the back, and more filigree on the bottom/sides/inside.
